In many countries even today, babies born with deformities are often allowed to die. This drama is based on the true story of a Taiwanese boy who was born with deformed feet and was nearly put out by his family to die of exposure. His uncle intervenes, offers to bring him up, and his life was saved. Forced to return to his family's grudging attentions after the early death of his protector, he overcomes many obstacles. For instance, during floods arising from typhoons, he is twice left to drown, and only intervention by one of his brothers (the first time) and by his girlfriend (the second) enables him to be rescued. The boy went on to achieve academic excellence, wrote a best-selling autobiography, and gave inspirational talks to other handicapped children. He became a nationally recognized figure, widely respected for this courageous work
